Japan is known for many things – it's beautiful nature, anime and manga, high-speed trains, their food, next-level convenience stores and many more.

It is almost without a doubt that Japan has become synonymous with having the best convenience stores or konbinis thanks to their wide array of food at affordable prices, user friendly food packaging, do-it-yourself fresh fruit smoothies and high-tech checkout counters.

Recently, an Instagram reel showing "why Japan is living in the future" has gone viral on social media platforms.

The video by @japan_wonder_travel showcases a 7-Eleven store equipped with a holographic self-checkout counter and has more than 2.1 million views.

When did holograms stop being just a thing of the future?!

In the video, it shows how you can only see the hologram when standing directly in front of the machine. The more you move to the side, the more the hologram disappears from sight.

To work the machine, simply tap on the buttons on the hologram like you would on any other normal screen.

The only difference is that the action may take a bit of getting used to because you are not actually tapping on anything.

From the side, it will appear as if you are just moving your fingers in thin air!

How cool is that?!

Watch the full video here.

Doesn't this remind you all of the first time you found out about a touchscreen device?
