Hollow Tree Self Storage To Celebrate Grand Opening Of New Wine Vault

DARIEN, CT — A grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday at Hollow

DARIEN, CT — A grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday at Hollow Tree Self Storage in Darien to celebrate the facility's latest addition — the wine vault.

The wine vault was first opened in late July, according to facility General Manager Maria Hernandez, as a way for customers to store their wine collections.

"We had some extra space and we thought that would be a potential need for customers in the area when they're selling their large homes or downsizing," said Hernandez, calling the space like "a wine cellar away from home."

Hollow Tree's subterranean wine vault encompasses 5,000-square feet and has more than 100 individual units. Each unit is free of UV light and designed with strict climate and humidity controls to prevent fluctuation.

The smallest unit, at about 14 cubic feet, can store roughly 150 bottles. The largest unit is t 1,300 cubic feet, and can handle as many as 5,600 bottles.

Hernandez explained that the wine vault is different from other facilities, in that customers can have access to their collections seven days a week, year round. Hollow Tree accepts deliveries of collections, and can hold them until the customer can come in and arrange the bottles how they want.

Wood doors on each unit provide a natural look, and steel wine racks are available to store bottles horizontally.

There is also a tasting room so customers can pop open a bottle with a few friends if they'd like, and there's a conference room as well. A gas-powered generator provides power backup in the event of an extreme weather event.

The cost ranges from $59 per month to as much as $2,300 depending on the unit size.

The grand opening event on Oct. 22 will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the facility which is located at 131 Hollow Tree Ridge Road. There will be wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, and a chance to learn more about the wine vault concept.

Since the space opened a few months ago, Hernandez said she's heard nothing but positive feedback.

"We've heard all good things. People who are already tenants of the space are happy," she said.
